This chapter presents contemporary models of intelligence. These models draw heavily on the past models, and the chapter elucidates relations between models of the present and those of the past. The chapter is divided into five parts. It opens with an introduction. Second, it argues that theories of intelligence matter in practical everyday life, not just "in theory." Third, classical theories of intelligence are presented and critically evaluated. Fourth, contemporary theories of intelligence are presented and critically evaluated. Fifth, the chapter presents some challenges to all current conceptions of intelligence and draws some conclusions.
