A number of activities of a practical nature have been termed by their authors as something other than applied anthropology. The relationship of a practical side to the discipline of anthropology has had a long history. The reluctance of anthropologists to be associated with the solutions to practical problems is equally long in its history. This reluctance has resulted in an unjustified separation or distinction between these activities. Applied anthropology is simply a role that any anthropologist can assume and has. The distinctions made are more illusionary than real. Despite all pronouncements to the contrary, there is and always has been, only one approach that up to now has been called applied anthropology
