This chapter examines the complex interplay of ergativity and nominativity in Kuikuro, a Carib language spoken in Brazil, and compares it with other Carib languages. Franchetto analyzes the morphosyntactic alignment patterns in these languages, focusing on the distribution of case marking and verb agreement. She argues that while Kuikuro exhibits a predominantly ergative-absolutive system in its morphology, certain syntactic constructions reveal nominative-accusative features.
