A Single-Case Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis of a Black Woman's Trauma and Healing After Undue Police Violence

This study examined a Black woman's experience of trauma and healing after undue police violence. Using interpretative phenomenological analysis, eight themes reflecting prolonged violence, intersectional disadvantage, determined resolve, diminished coping and emotional regulation, preexisting vulnerability, diasporic community support, positive psychological change, and antiracist allies emerged, along with eight additional subthemes. Insight into psychological harm that occurs as a result of undue police violence is gained, along with greater understanding of ways to mend wounds resulting from this harm
