  • A Response

    Open Access•Penelope Allison, Penelope M Allison•CHAPTER•Housing in the Ancient…•2022

Penelope Allison’s 2001 article on using material and written sources to study Roman domestic space has framed the debate on the topic more broadly for ancient world housing. In this chapter, she revisits that contribution and responses to it, and surveys the theoretical and methodological frameworks of the chapters in the volume. By examining the nature of the data, analytical and interpretative approaches to them, and the research questions, Al…

  • Mental Health Treatment Reported by US Workers before and during the Covid-19 Pandemic

    Open Access•Ja K Gu, Luenda E Charles et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

The COVID-19 pandemic introduced a significant and unprecedented exacerbation of community mental health challenges. We compared the prevalence of mental health treatment (MHT) before and during the COVID-19 pandemic among US workers. Self-reported MHT data (N = 30,680) were obtained from the Sample Adult data of the National Health Interview Survey (2019 and 2020). MHT was defined as having taken prescription medications for mental health issues…

  • Association of occupational stress with waking, diurnal, and bedtime cortisol response in police officers

Open Access•Penelope Allison, Anna Mnatsakanova et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•2019

Higher stress ratings were related to blunted diurnal decline in cortisol, suggesting conventional and unexpected police stressors may result in HPA axis dysfunction. Future studies investigating possible associations between elevated cortisol and subclinical CVD are needed

  • Employee Attitudes about the Impact of Visitation Dogs on a College Campus

Anne M Foreman, Penelope Allison et al.•ARTICLE•Anthrozoös•2019•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 42

Therapy and visitation dogs are becoming more common on college campuses to provide comfort and support to students, but little attention has been given to the concerns of faculty and staff who share space with the dogs in their workplaces. The purpose of this study was to assess the perceptions of faculty and staff with regard to both the benefits and the hazards (e.g., dander, bites, fleas) and risks associated with the presence of visitation d…

  • Roman Household Organization

Penelope Allison, Penelope M Allison et al.•BOOK•Oxford Handbook of the…•2018

This chapter surveys current perspectives on children and stages of childhood within Roman households and examines how archaeological evidence for household organization can change these perspectives. It discusses what can be gleaned from analyses of archaeological evidence for household space and household activities, and notably from assessing skeletal remains, material culture, and decoration. It discusses what this evidence can tell us about …

  • High‐protein meal challenge reveals the association between the salivary cortisol response and metabolic syndrome in police officers

Open Access•Penelope Allison, Penelope Baughman et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•2015

Reduced cortisol response to a high-protein meal challenge may be associated with MetSyn. Future longitudinal studies could provide useful evidence for planning intervention studies on cardiovascular risk among police officers
