Jennifer Hasty is a Member in the School of Social Sciences at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey, participating in the annual focus seminar on corruption. She is currently on a one-year leave from her position as an assistant professor of anthropology at Pacific Lutheran University. This paper examines how the Ghanaian government has appropriated, crafted, and "repatriated" a Caribbean holiday, "Emancipation Day," for celebration as a tourist holiday.
