Regional patterns, local techniques. Remote sensing and archaeology at prehispanic site of San Isidro, El Salvador
The archaeological site of San Isidro, Sonsonate, El Salvador, is located at a geographically advantageous position within the transitional zone between large study areas of Mesoamerica and Central America. It became the focus of the Polish-Salvadoran Proyecto Arqueológico San Isidro (PASI) investigation in 2018. The overarching research question of the Project is to understand the prehispanic cultural and social dynamics within this zone, and re…
Wyniki badań nieinwazyjnych na zamkach krzyżackich w Starogrodzie, Unisławiu, Zamku Bierzgłowskim i Lipienku
W artykule zaprezentowano wyniki badań nieinwazyjnych, realizowanych w ramach projektu naukowego pt. „Castra Terrae Culmensis – na rubieży chrześcijańskiego świata”. Obejmowały one szerokopłaszczyznowe rozpoznanie za pomocą pomiarów magnetometrycznych i geofizycznych oraz naziemny skaning laserowy, które stanowiły podstawą do badań archeologicznych, prowadzonych w 2017 i 2018 roku
New historical data on the Teutonic Order crusades in Prussia
In 2016–2018 in Starogród, in historical Chełmno Land in northern‐central Poland, remains were discovered of a stronghold (convent house) of the Knights of the Teutonic Order that was founded in the 1230s. After a search lasting more than 100 years, remains were also discovered of the oldest and repeatedly translocated city of Chełmno, which was founded by the German Knights at the same time. Non‐invasive and archaeological studies were conducted…
Marea/Northern Hawwariya in northern Egypt
Marea/Northern Hawwariya is one of the largest and most important archaeological sites dating between the 3rd century BC and the 8th century AD located at Lake Mareotis in northern Egypt. Even though excavations have been carried out since the end of the 1970s, the settlement is still largely unexplored. To rectify this situation, non‐invasive research has been carried out on 21.5 ha of the site using a precise positioning system and magnetometer…
Prospections non invasives sur le site de Mustis/Musti (El Krib) en Tunisie
The objective of the first step of the non-invasive survey carried out on the Mustis site described herein was to verify the possibility of locating archaeological remains and to detect the location of the supposed remains by geophysical measurements (magnetic and electric methods). Magnetic measurements were made with Geometrics G-858 Cesium magnetometer with two probes located on the same horizontal level at 0.5 m distance or on the same vertic…

Confirmation of the first Neolithic rondel-type enclosure in Poland
The early Neolithic rondel is a large curvilinear ditched and palisaded enclosure found in increasing numbers in Central Europe. It has close links with the tells of the Danube region, themselves highly suggestive instruments of the earliest Neolithic. Here the authors extend the distribution of rondels further to the north-east, with the discovery and verification of the first example in Poland. As they point out, it is aerial photography that m…
New data from magnetic survey of Ptolemais
During non-invasive surveys carried out at the site Ptolemais since 2002 we have collected, processed and interpreted many different kinds of data: Quickbird-2 satellite imagery, oblique air photographs made with the use of KAP system in various years, seasons and lighting condition; field-walking survey, surveys with several geophysical methods (Misiewicz, 2005; Bogacki, 2008). Last two seasons the efficiency of magnetic prospection was tested w…
Multilevel resistivity prospecting of architectural remains
A survey at Rheinmunster–Schwarzach was carried out during extended research of the medieval monastic complexes of Baden-Wurttenmberg, southern Germany. The excavation of building foundations connected with the church was an aim of the survey. Previous knowledge of the buried remains was based on the results of the few trial pits and a study of written sources. The resistivity method was applied. A preliminary survey using the twin-probe array (1…
