In 1888, evangelical, educator and feminist Constance Maynard adopted Effie Anthon, a six year old girl from a Salvation Army orphanage. Her mother, Rosabianca Fasulo was an unmarried, Italian woman recently “rescued” by the Salvation Army. Maynard anticipated that Effie would one day join her at her college but she met none of the expectations for her. Wall recesses for bee hives
Walls with recesses to hold and protect skeps of bees were studied in Britain, Ireland and France. From an analysis of 1214 site records, the distribution, dates and characteristics of these walls are reported; some conclusions are drawn about the beekeeping practised (1100-1900) and certain regional differences

The Architectural Development of Great Zimbabwe
The paper summarises the findings of a quantitative assessment of the variations in dry-stone wall architecture at Great Zimbabwe. A distinct correlation between block geometry and wall style was established and applied to compare different periods of architecture. In conclusion the paper argues that architectural developments at the site were directly related to the progressive quarrying of the granite blocks used for wall construction
