C dates funded within the contract archaeological excavations conducted along the S7 roadway on the section between Moczydło and Kraków (Lesser Poland) between 2016 and 2022
This paper presents the results of accelerator mass spectrometry radiocarbon (AMS 14 C) dating performed on archaeological samples (human bone, wood charcoal, and other charred plant macro-remains) from six sites located in the Lesser Poland Upland (southern Poland). C-based absolute chronology of the Malice culture reassessed
This article addresses the absolute chronology of the Malice culture. It presents a Bayesian modelling based on an elementary assessment of accuracy and precision of all the relevant 14C age measurements. Thanks to the preliminary qualitative evaluation, the newly built models are of higher statistical agreement than previous ones. Based on the refined models, the Early stylistic phase (Ia) of the Malice culture can be dated to around 4770-4600, …
Kaliska I
In the spring of 2017, amateur metal detectorists discovered a Late Bronze Age hoard near the village of Kaliska, Poland. Comprising over 120 artefacts, it is one of the most impressive Bronze Age finds within Pomerania. The authors discuss the hoard's contents and context, as well as its chronology
Einmal ist keinmal. Peculiar burial practices of prehistoric communities settling the Lublin-Volhynia Upland in the Early Iron Age
The study addresses remains of two peculiar graves unearthed at the site Mikulin 9 in the Dobużek Scarp (Pol. Skarpa Dobużańska) area in Western Volhynia. Unique character of the burials under consideration consists in the peculiarity of funeral ritual performed, scenario of which was basically divided into two acts of burning of the deceased – once on cremation pyres, and then in the eventual places of their interment (grave pits). The author carried out a thorough re-analysis of two eneolithic grave assemblages from Upper Silesia. Both burials discussed in the text yielded culturally and chronologically distinct vessels with discoid attachments of handles (Germ. Scheibenhenkel ). The findings in question are very important for the understanding of the decline of the Middle Eneolithic ‘Danubian’ traditions in the area
