  • La amistad y las relaciones o vínculos significativos

    Open Access•Mari-Luz Esteban•ARTICLE•Antropología Experimental•2026

This article makes a contribution to the study of friendship within the framework of a collective research project, which analyzes friendship relationships where the political dimension is fundamental, and where the borders and hierarchies of gender, kinship, sexuality and production of knowledge, among others, tend to be dislocated or erased. It also presents some of the results of my own research, based on Teresa del Valle's concept of "creativ…

  • Feminist policy on female ageing in the Basque Country

    Mari-Luz Esteban, Irantzu Fernandez-Rodriguez et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Care and…•2024•Referencias: 2

This article presents what we regard as the primary topics of concern for a feminist policy on ageing (including care and caring), derived from the results of a collaborative study undertaken in the Basque Country. The data were gathered through meetings with eight equality specialists from Women’s Houses in the region and interviews with a total of 42 older women. Our analysis shows that one of the biggest challenges is identifying strategies fo…

  • Ethnography of the kitchen

    Open Access•Mari-Luz Esteban, Miren Guilló-Arakistain et al.•ARTICLE•Ethnography•2024•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 8

In this article, we delve into a debate about whether a kitchen was to be installed in a new Women's House in a city in the Basque Country (Hernani, Gipuzkoa). The ethnography presented here was conducted by observing the process around the creation of the House. Articulating the debate's main points led us to examine the dominant cultural assumptions about cooking in Basque society, especially in view of the opposing feminist positions on the ki…

    Mari-Luz Esteban•ARTICLE•Journal of Gender Studies•2023•Referencias: 10

This article analyzes the key characteristics of the Women’s Houses in the Basque Country and how they are run. These municipal centres are promoted by the feminist movement in close collaboration with local institutions and are part of the long international feminist tradition of creating spaces specifically for women. The Houses run a diverse range of programmes and offer legal, employment and sexual health counselling services and other target…

  • Herida de política y cárcel. El relato encarnado de una activista

    Open Access•Mari-Luz Esteban•ARTICLE•Disparidades.

  • Equality and gender amongst young Basque people

Open Access•Mari-Luz Esteban, Mari Luz Esteban Galarza et al.•ARTICLE•Athenea Digital Revista de…•2017

This paper is based on qualitative research conducted with young Basque people (15-30 years old). In the first part, a portrait of the young Basque population is presented with regard to formal equality and changes occurring in Spanish and Basque society over the last th…
