LGM erosion and subsequent rapid loess deposition in Trzebnica (SW Poland)
The 7.7-m loess–paleosol sequence in Trzebnica records a short (ca. 3 ka) but intense phase of loess accumulation that preceded the onset of the Weichselian Late Glacial (MIS 2). The stratigraphy contains a well-defined erosional unconformity, marking a hiatus prior to the deposition of the youngest loess unit (L1LL1). The Trzebnica loess contains numerous signals of slope redeposition, as evidenced by lithological indicators. In this paper, we p…

Beyond the Nile
In this paper, we present new research results from the Bayuda Desert (Sudan) based on 2021–2022 surveys and excavations at two localities (BP424 and BP1316), complemented by sedimentological and luminescence dating results. At BP 424, a small lithic assemblage comprising 28 artefacts was discovered within a ceiling unit of disorganised gravel and sand. Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) Dating results indicate that the layer is older than 5…
High-resolution radiocarbon and OSL cross-dating of Late Pleniglacial to Early Holocene aeolian succession and wildfire dynamics at the Łaskarzew site, eastern Poland
The chronology of Late Glacial and Early Holocene dune formation and wildfire activity at the Łaskarzew site, eastern Poland, was reconstructed using a combination of accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS) radiocarbon dating ( 14 C) and optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dating. The stratigraphic profile records 13 aeolian-soil cycles, characterized by alternating phases of aeolian deposition, soil formation, and wildfire episodes, reflecting t…
Application of Multi‐Method Dating for Understanding the Gravettian North of Moravia, Central Europe
This article presents the results of integrating three methods to assess the age of the Upper Palaeolithic site of Pietraszyn 11 (SW Poland), close to the Moravian Gate. Sediment chronology determined using optically stimulated luminescence produced promising, yet ambiguous results (51.0 ± 3.7 to 20.3 ± 0.7 ka). Molecular dating of rodent remains provided a more exact date (32–22.5 ka cal bp ). Radiocarbon dating, however, allowed us to narrow th…

Problems of Developing the Pleistocene Radiocarbon Chronology within high Mountain Terranes by the Example of Russian Altai
The paper presents a discussion of 24 radiocarbon ( 14 C) dates of organic material from deposits of various genesis within the intermountain depressions and valleys of the Russian Altai. These apparent 14 C ages (sometimes near the upper time limit of the 14 C dating method) contradict to other proxy data and optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) dates. Rejuvenation of ancient deposits by 14 C dating encountered two problems: (1) wrong interpr…
