  Thirty-three examples of pottery matching visually the wares made at the kiln sites of Donyatt, south Somerset, England, have been identified from five sites in Virginia and Maryland, the identifications of two vessels being confirmed by Inductively Coupled Plasma analysis.   This report describes the rescue excavation of a mid 17th- to mid 18th-century potter’s workshop and kiln (Kiln 2) (ST 3320 1325). The Kiln (2) is paralleled by kilns at Ewenny, south Wales. The report includes the description of another contemporary kiln (Kiln 1), which was destroyed by contractors before archaeologists were alerted, but of which a photographic record was made.The excavation recovered a large and important collection of Donyatt …

  Rescue excavations on an extensive cropmark site at the confluence of the Lyne Water and Meldon Burn in the 1970s revealed several episodes of activity. A limited Mesolithic presence is indicated by the stone finds, but more intensive use is attested from the early/mid fourth millennium BC.
