This study focused on differences for service utilization and satisfaction, along with perceived future service use and need for rural versus frontier residing older adults. Awareness and Stigma of Autism Spectrum Disorders in Undergraduate Students
Contrary to past studies, gender was not associated with ASD knowledge or stigma endorsement. This study suggests that an intervention designed to increase ASD knowledge, particularly in the areas of etiology and treatment, and to increase contact with students diagnosed with autism would be effective in reducing ASD stigma
Understanding the Relationship Between Different Types of Instructional Humor and Student Learning
The purpose of this study was to examine the frequency of use of different types of humor in the classroom for a possible relationship with perceived and actual learning. This relationship was examined using quantitative methods. Comparisons Between Hispanic and Non-Hispanic White Informal Caregivers
This study focuses on understanding similarities and differences between non-Hispanic White and Hispanic informal caregivers of those with Alzheimer's disease. Comparisons take place between caregivers reporting high levels of burden as indicated by the Zarit Burden Inventory. Data suggest similarities and differences between Hispanic ( n = 17) and non-Hispanic White ( n = 17) caregivers in this study in several areas. Hispanic caregivers indicat…
Measuring Serious Leisure in Chess
The serious leisure inventory and measure (SLIM) was tested with 348 chess players to confirm the factors, assess the effects of method bias, and propose a set of the best-performing items for the 18 factor SLIM. The 54-item SLIM demonstrated acceptable fit and reliability values. The effect of method bias was evidenced in the sample and explained one-third of the variance. Inspection of factor loadings, when controlling for method bias, yielded …
Assessing Commonality and Favorability of First Names
From 1476 students enrolled in general psychology, the four most common and least common male and female first names were identified. Students in another class (31 men, 48 women) judged which of 20 traits they associated with each name. Compared with less common names, the more common names were associated with over twice as many favorable traits
Self-Efficacy , Affect, and Seeking Support Between Caregivers of Dementia and Non-Dementia Patients
The present study sought to determine if caregivers' seeking support was related to the level of affect and self-efficacy concerning caring for the terminally ill individual. Important to the present study was the results suggesting that female caregiveis display an overall higher level of negative affect and that this negative affect was perceived as more intense than expressed by the male counterpart.
