Recent years have seen dramatic changes in psychology. A discipline that was once wedded to positivist inquiry is now reaping the benefits of a series of objections to its paradigmatic limitations in the late 1960s and 1970s. This article locates significant changes in the discipline of psychology in recent years in the context of transformations of higher education that in turn are a function of the emergence of “neoliberal” capitalism, which deregulates welfare and education services and places responsibility on the individual.
