Gentrification and Urban Children's Well‐Being
Gentrification changes the neighborhood and family contexts in which children are socialized—for better and worse—yet little is known about its consequences for youth. This review, drawn from research in urban planning, sociology, and psychology, maps out mechanisms by which gentrification may impact children. Interparental Relations, Maternal Employment, and Fathering in Mexican American Families
This study examined independent and interactive relations between the interparental relationship and maternal employment in predicting fathering within low-income, Mexican American two-parent families (N = 115). Interparental conflict was negatively related to quality fathering, and these relations were noted only for single-earner families. Family Mediators of the Relation Between Acculturation and Adolescent Mental Health
This study of 175 Mexican‐origin families examined a mediational model linking the linguistic acculturation of mothers and adolescents with a wide array of family mediators and adolescent mental health outcomes. Family linguistic acculturation, a latent construct based on maternal and adolescent acculturation, was positively related to increased family and interparental conflict but was not related to maternal parenting practices. Using Qualitative Methods to Develop Contextually Relevant Measures and Preventive Interventions
Qualitative methods were used to develop a contextually relevant quantitative measure of parenting stress and inform the design of family‐focused interventions aimed at preventing adolescent mental and behavioral health problems.
