  • Entangled positionality

Open Access•Ryan Thomas, Ryan D Thomas et al.•ARTICLE•Ethnography•2026

This paper develops the concept of entangled positionality as a way of theorising how researcher positionality is constituted across the multiple connected worlds the ethnographer inhabits. Drawing on Crossley’s relational sociology and building on Desmond’s call for relational ethnography, we extend recent scholarship on relational positionality (Bolade-Ogunfodun et al., 2023; Delfino, 2025; Drujon d’Astros et al., 2024) by applying Crossley’s (…

  • Fear, Anger, and Loneliness

    P Potrac, Paul A Potrac et al.•ARTICLE•Sociology of Sport Journal•2021•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 6

This interpretive study provides original insights into the socioemotional experiences that contributed to referee attrition in English grassroots football. Data were generated using an online survey ( n = 251) and in-depth interviews ( n = 20) with former referees. Using complementary symbolic interactionist and relational conceptualizations of identity, social interaction, and emotional pain, the analysis addressed the participants’ interpretat…

  • Athletes as “Sites of Normative Intersectionality”

Adam Nichol, Adam J Nichol et al.•ARTICLE•Sociology of Sport Journal•2020•Referencias: 23

Social structure remains an equivocal term in (sport) sociology. Our understandings of its constitution and role in causally influencing behavior are arguably underdeveloped. Using a critical realist approach, this paper examined how structural entities and reflexive agency combined to influence behavior in an elite youth cricket context (e.g., athletes, coaches). A methodological bricolage was used to generate data and Elder-Vass’s theorizing pr…

  • Casting the Role of Trygaeus in Aristophanes’ Peace

Edward T Hall, Edith Hall•CHAPTER•THEATRICAL CAST OF ATHENS:…•2006

This chapter examines what was required of the actor who played Trygaeus, and shows that although the role entailed some uniquely acrobatic displays upon the theatrical crane, it also made extreme vocal demands. The actor not only had to sing tragic lyrics while ascending on his dung-beetle, but to recite tragic anapaests, display a command of Stesichorean lyric, and latterly extemporize in hexameters from cues like a rhapsode at the Panathenaea.…

    Open Access•Edward T Hall•ARTICLE•Antiquity•1987•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 5

The first and obvious strength of AMS and other small-sample radiocarbon techniques is in the tiny quantities of material they destroy, opening the way for 14C determinations on little and precious objects - fabric and pictures, for examples - from which no curator will sacrifice a large chunk. In this case, the object is a more substantial thing, but the point still applies; and the size of its timbers has made possible a completely independent …

These datelists will not be a substitute for final publication in Radiocarbon , which is desirable for all dates, but are intended to serve as a formal interim publication of dates, so that they can be cited

  • Analyses of Some Urartian Bronzes

    Open Access•M J Hughes, Michael Hughes et al.•ARTICLE•Anatolian Studies•1981•Referencias: 8

Ancient Urartu is rightly celebrated for its fine bronzework, examples of which have been found at such sites as Toprak Kale, Altıntepe, Karmir Blur and Kayalidere. While a good deal has been written about the stylistic and typological implications of these bronzes, however, very little attention has been paid to metallurgical or technological considerations. Thus, it seems important to publish as soon as possible a series of analyses made some t…

A number of investigators are agreed that the popular medical systems of tribal, peasant, and allied peoples are "effective." Most of the literature closely examining that effectiveness focuses on the ethnopharmacological dimensions of the healing systems and generally ignores psychosocial factors. Recent developments in psychophysiology may offer insights into these neglected areas. The specific idea to be examined here is that successful "gener…

    Edward T Hall, Everette Hall et al.•ARTICLE•Current Anthropology•1968•Citada por: 89•Referencias: 9

Virtually everything that man is and does is associated with space. Man's sense of space is a synthesis of many sensory inputs: visual, auditory, kinesthetic, olfactory, and thermal. Not only does each of these constitute a complex system (as for example, the dozen or more different ways of experiencing depth visually), but each is molded and patterned by culture. Hence people reared in different cultures live in different sensory worlds. What is…

  • Surface‐enrichment of Buried Metals

    Open Access•Edward T Hall•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•1961•Citada por: 17

“Surface‐enrichment” is a term which is now commonly used to describe the composition changes which have taken place during the life of a buried noble metal alloy. In fact “surface depletion” might be a better term, since it seems likely that it is the leaching out of the less chemically stable elements which causes the surface composition to change. However, I have kept to the more frequently used term throughout the following discussion

X‐ ray fluorescence is now a well established method of analysis both in the laboratory and industry. The fact that the method is essentially nondestructive makes it particularly attractive for the analysis of archaeological and museum artifacts. This paper gives a short simplified description of the method and gives an indication of the type of problem which may be tackled. Due to certain fundamental characteristics of the technique it is not su…

The training picture is an exceedingly complex one; it is also one in which anthropologists have played a significantly minor role. (Note: Orientat…

In three theaters during the war racial issues were found to revolve around: (1) conditioning, attitudes, and behavior patterns established in civilian life; (2) the degree of adjustment of the individual to Army life; (3) the attitudes of command at all levels; and (4) personal interrelatioships of individuals. Negro troops in the Army proved to be highly sensitive to the qualities of leadership imposed upon them, good leaders having good troops…
