Theory of change to develop a health and well-being complex intervention for people with HIV
INTRODUCTION: There is a high prevalence of poor mental health among people with HIV, intersecting with structural inequalities, stigma and co-morbidities. A new person-centred approach to care that utilises health coaching to prioritise health and well-being and connects people to existing sources of support or voluntary sector organisations (social prescribing) could benefit people with HIV. METHODS: Theory of Change (ToC) methodology was used …
Confronting global inequities in palliative care
The number of people dying with preventable, serious health-related suffering is rapidly increasing, and international calls for the expansion of palliative care services have been made, such as the World Health Assembly Resolution 67.19, which named palliative care as an essential component of Universal Health Coverage. Despite this, only about 14% of all palliative care need globally is met today, and health systems around the world are unprepa…
Community Engagement in Long Covid Research
INTRODUCTION: Long Covid and other infection-associated chronic condition communities have been integral in advocating for patient engagement in all stages of research, from design and conduct, and implementation, through to interpretation and knowledge translation; nevertheless, the process varies across research teams. In this paper, we (1) describe our process undertaking a community-engaged Long Covid research study; (2) evaluate our communit…
The inclusion of LGBTQ + people within UK health policy
While the needs of some minoritized groups are well recognized within health policies, LGBTQ + people remain marginalized. Further work is needed to educate and enable policy makers to advocate for LGBTQ + people and communities, and to ensure equitable and respectful inclusion of all minoritised groups

America, the war of 1739–48 and the development of British global power
Britain's global power rested on her ability to move effective forces to different parts of the globe. Seapower was at the core of this, but it also required expeditionary armies to establish British power on land in a more permanent fashion. During the Seven Years War (1756-63) Britain proved that she possessed this global power and that it was an extremely effective diplomatic weapon. The factors that contributed to this global capability were …
Climate change and drought
Climate change is likely to increase drought risk during the 21 st century in many parts of the world. Climate model projections, under a range of emissions scenarios, consistently show that seasonal rainfall is likely to decrease across large parts of southern Europe, north Africa, central Asia and southern Africa, and reductions are also possible in other dry parts of the world. The effects of climate change, however, will be superimposed on th…
Improving HIV management in sub-Saharan Africa
The WHO advocates palliative care as an essential component of HIV care from the point of diagnosis (when the burden of pain and symptoms may be first experienced) to the end of life and into bereavement (World Health Organisation, 2006). However, in the field of African HIV care where mortality is high, palliative care has been shown to be largely lacking. This study aimed to measure the prevalence of multidimensional palliative care needs of pa…
