  • Ignorance is not always bliss: A qualitative study of young adults' experiences with being ghosted

    Open Access•Karen Wu, Olajide Bamishigbin•ARTICLE•Personal Relationships•2024•Referencias: 35

Ghosting, or ignoring someone to end a relationship, is often considered a harmful aspect of growing digital connectivity. However, research on ghosting has focused on the experiences of European/European Americans in romantic contexts. Thus, we broadly explored experiences of being ghosted among 29 undergraduates primarily from underrepresented populations (75.9% Latinx, 6.9% Asian, 6.9% Black) in the United States. We conducted face-to-face sem…

  • When silence speaks louder than words: Exploring the experiences and attitudes of ghosters

    Open Access•Karen Wu, Olajide Bamishigbin•ARTICLE•Personal Relationships•2023

Ghosting has become commonplace beyond romantic relationships. Therefore, we aimed to broadly understand ghosters' (i.e., people who ghost others) experiences including the process of ghosting, reasons and attributions for ghosting, feelings and behaviors associated with ghosting, and attitudes toward ghosting. Thirty‐four undergraduates (65% Latinx, 15% Asian, 12% Black, 8% Other ethnicity) who had ghosted another person were interviewed in‐pers…

  • Healthy versus unhealthy comfort eating for psychophysiological stress recovery in low-income Black and Latinx adults

    Open Access•Erin C Standen, Laura E Finch et al.•ARTICLE•Appetite•2022•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 50

Low-income Black and Latinx individuals are disproportionately vulnerable to chronic stress and metabolic disease. Evidence suggests that these populations engage in elevated levels of comfort eating (i.e., eating comforting food to alleviate stress), which can harm diet quality. For this reason, many interventions discourage comfort eating. However, if comfort eating does indeed buffer stress, it may be a protective health behavior, particularly…

  • Lifetime discrimination in low to middle income mothers and cellular aging: A prospective analysis

  • Black American Fathers Employed in Higher-Risk Contexts for Contracting Covid-19: Implications for Individual Wellbeing and Work-Family Spillover

Open Access•Shauna M Cooper, Alvin Thomas et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Men s Health•2021

Black Americans remain disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Emerging data suggests that employment in certain occupations (e.g., essential; frontline) may place individuals at higher-risk for contracting COVID-19. The current investigation examined how Black American fathers’ COVID-19 perceived work risk was associated with their individual well-being (COVID-19 diagnosis; depressive and anxiety symptoms; sleep disturbance; sleep …

  • Father Involvement in Infant Parenting in an Ethnically Diverse Community Sample: Predicting Paternal Depressive Symptoms

Open Access•Olajide Bamishigbin, Olajide N Bamishigbin et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2020

Early paternal involvement in infant care is beneficial to child and maternal health, and possibly for paternal mental health. The purpose of the present study was to examine the relationship between fathers' involvement in early infant parenting and their depressive symptoms during the infant's first year in a sample of 881 low-income Black, Hispanic, and White fathers recruited from five sites in the United States (urban, mixed urban/suburban, …

  • The antecedents and consequences of adolescent fatherhood: A systematic review

    Open Access•Olajide Bamishigbin, Olajide N Bamishigbin et al.•ARTICLE•Social Science & Medicine•2019

  • Risk, resilience, and depressive symptoms in low-income African American fathers

Olajide Bamishigbin, Christine Dunkel Schetter et al.•ARTICLE•Cultural Diversity & Ethnic…•2016•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 11

How fathers cope with stress and common everyday experiences of racism contributed to depressive symptoms in the year following birth of a child. Interventions that target race-related stressors and decrease avoidant coping may promote better outcomes in this important and understudied population. (PsycINFO Database Record
