  • Object and tool manipulation diversity in an urban capuchin monkey (Sapajus libidinosus) group in Brasília National park

Open Access•Túlio Costa Lousa, Murilo Reis Camargo et al.•ARTICLE•Primates•2026

Capuchin monkeys are highly skilled primates recognized for their diverse object manipulation, a crucial evolutionary trait. This study explores the influence of the urban, artificial setting of Brasília National Park (BNP)on capuchin monkeys’ object manipulation behaviors, aiming to offer more systematic data on this activity within urban Cerrado environments. Object manipulation data were systematically gathered using the “all occurrences” meth…

  • Disputes over provisioned resources are no more intense between groups than within groups in free-ranging Sapajus libidinosus

Open Access•Túlio Costa Lousa, Francisco Dyonísio Cardoso Mendes•ARTICLE•Primates•2024

  • Feeding Platforms as an Effective Strategy to Prevent the Consumption of Refuse by Urban Populations of Capuchin Monkeys ( Sapajus libidinosus )

Open Access•Túlio Costa Lousa, Murilo Reis Camargo et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•2024

The availability of manmade foodstuffs in the environment may significantly alter the diets, behavior and health of wild animals and the ecosystems ecology. One of the principal problems faced by urban populations of capuchin monkeys is their contact with household refuse, which may provoke a number of impacts on the health of these animals. The present study tested the use of feeding platforms as a strategy to reduce the consumption of unhealthy…

  • Interactions with humans reduce the success of foraging for anthropogenic food by capuchin monkeys ( Sapajus libidinosus ) in Brasília National Park, Brazil

Open Access•Murilo Reis Camargo, Túlio Costa Lousa et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•2024

The progressive growth of urban environments has increasingly forced populations of nonhuman primates to coexist with humans in many cities, which has resulted in problems such as behavioral alterations, conflicts with humans, and threats to the health of the monkeys, due to their consumption of anthropogenic foodstuffs. These anthropogenic foods, which are rich in calories, are the principal driver of the proximity between humans and primates, e…

  • Disputes Over Feeding Resources Provoke Agonistic Interactions Between Capuchins and Humans in Brasília National Park, Brazil

Túlio Costa Lousa, Murilo Reis Camargo et al.•ARTICLE•Anthrozoös•2024•Referencias: 41

  • Time budget and foraging strategies of two provisioned groups of tufted capuchin monkeys, Sapajus libidinosus, in a small, seasonal urban forest fragment

Open Access•Túlio Costa Lousa, Thallita Oliveira de Grande et al.•ARTICLE•Primates•2022

  • Male-Directed Object Use by Proceptive Female Bearded Capuchin Monkeys (Sapajus libidinosus) in Captivity

Open Access•Ricardo Mucury Filho, Murilo Reis Camargo et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021•Referencias: 35

  • Diversity of nutcracking tool sites used by Sapajus libidinosus in Brazilian Cerrado

Open Access•Francisco Dyonísio Cardoso Mendes, Raphael Moura Cardoso et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•2015

Cracking nuts with tools is a behavior documented in a small number of populations of tufted capuchins, mainly in semi-arid Caatinga and Caatinga-Cerrado transitional environments of northeastern Brazil. Only one of these populations inhabits the less arid Cerrado in Central Brazil, where environments are composed of a heterogeneous mosaic of fields, savannas and forest formations. We conducted surveys in 10 of 20 localities where nutcracking by …

  • Sex differences in vocal patterns in the northern muriqui ( Brachyteles hypoxanthus )

Open Access•Luisa F Arnedo, Francisco Dyonísio Cardoso Mendes et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Primatology•2010

We investigated whether sex differences in spatial dynamics correlate with rates of staccato and neigh vocalizations in northern muriquis ( Brachyteles hypoxanthus ) at the Reserva Particular do Patrimônio Natural–Feliciano Miguel Abdala, Minas Gerais, Brazil. A total of 2,727 10 min focal subject samples were collected on 32 adult females and 31 adult males between April 2007 and March 2008. Compared with males, females spent a significantly low…
