  • Development of the ethnic unconscious.

    William G Herron•ARTICLE•Psychoanalytic Psychology•1995

The ethnic unconscious is conceptualized as repressed material shared by each generation with the next and with most people of that ethnic group. The material is derived from identifications that form ethnic character. Given limited attention in the past, the concept is gaining increased visibility and vitality as part of the total self to be analyzed. Attention is drawn to the role of the ethnic unconscious in the analytic process and its value …

  • Sources of Family Violence

William G Herron, Rafael Art Javier et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social Distress and…•1994

AbstratThis paper suggests a direction for the exploration of the causes of family violence. Explanatory models offamily violence were considered in this regard, with the recommendation that a multi-determined model should be considered to ensure the most accurate explanation. We suggest that family violence will be best understood and prevented or alleviated, if a model is used that considers the interaction of structural violence and the person…

Since our publication of the special issue on a multicultural perspective on domestic violence by this journal (Vol. 3, No. 1, 1994), there has been an explosion of media coverage about this issue, partly precipitated by the O. J. Simpson story. Following the sensational coverage on television of the minute details of that incident, it appears that the number of reports of domestic violence increased substantially, and the society experienced a p…

This is of interest because fee surveys do not customarily perform an analysis by theoretical orientation. In this case there were 45 therapists, 15 psychodynamic, 15 behavioral, and 15 eclectic. The categories were based on concurrence b…

The successful predictors were scores on the Maine scales, Social Attainment Scale, and the Prognostic Scale, t…
