  • Framing child refugee deaths across water borders

Open Access•Eduardo González, Eduardo Antonio Hernández González•ARTICLE•Comparative Migration Studies•2026•Referencias: 9

This article examines media narratives surrounding the deaths of two child refugees—Alan Kurdi in the Aegean Sea (2015) and Valeria Martínez-Ramírez (2019) in the Rio Grande—to explore how journalistic coverage constructs affect, politics, crisis, and blame in the context of forced displacement. Moving beyond U.S. and European media–centric analyses, the study adopts a comparative approach that centers national and local news media in Turkey and …

  • Effects of the political configuration of local governments on subjective well-being

Ana Cárcaba García, Eduardo González et al.•ARTICLE•Policy Studies•2025•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 56

Determining what makes a person happy is an extremely complicated task. The objective of this article is to identify the effects of the composition and orientation of governance bodies in municipalities on individual subjective well-being. We connect the data from a large Spanish welfare survey to municipal data covering the aforementioned dimensions of political configuration. Unlike previous country-level studies, we find no significant effects…

    Open Access•Stephen J Aguilar, Hernan Galperin et al.•ARTICLE•Educational Researcher•2022•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 4

How does live instruction relate to student engagement in distance learning? Does the relationship differ across grade levels? This study addresses these questions by examining data from a random sample of families from a large urban school district in southern California. We find a strong correlation between live instruction and student engagement in online learning among elementary school students, with every additional hour of live instruction…

  • Not a Monolith!” Media Narratives of the Latina/o/x Vote after the 2020 U.S. Election

    Arthur D Soto-Vásquez, Eduardo González•ARTICLE•Howard Journal of Communications•2022•Citada por: 6•Referencias: 12

This study assesses how the “not a monolith” narrative in U.S. journalism after the 2020 presidential election serves to further shape the Latina/o/x electorate into a politically marketable category. This study employs a qualitative content analysis of 159 media texts produced in the first two weeks after Election Day. We find that the contradictions inherent in the construction of Latina/o/x voters—such as class, racial, and regional difference…

    Open Access•Valentina Riberi, Eduardo González et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropology & Education Quarterly•2021•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 34

During an ethnographic study of two Chilean schools over a period of three years, we observed the discursive assemblage of "what is vulnerable" emerging from an algorithm used to allocate public resources. In this article, we unravel the ways in which the algorithm intra-acts with other elements in the process of producing what is vulnerable and how this affects our approach to ethnography. We conclude by considering two methodological dilemmas t…

Twelve chapters comprise the anthology, including the exemplary Introduction. It is the best Bolaño critical ensemble since Bolaño Salvaje (2006). It best compares with articles from a published conference, updating issues and inventing others, ahead of the next round on Bolaño it so well inspires. First Part: “Bolaño and World History” delves deep into fascism in fictional and counterfactual terms (Federico Finchelstein); into Nocturno de Chile,…

Open Access•Miguel Beas Miranda, Eduardo González et al.•ARTICLE•Revista de Estudios Sociales•2016•Referencias: 7

Nationalist education during the Franco era used weekly slogans written in students’ notebooks as a resource for memorizing and non-critical learning. The objective of this article is to analyze the link between the world of the emotions, the content of the slogans used, and the cultivation of patriotism. We have used a methodology relevant to the curricular micro-history of a unitary school in Navafría (1964-1965 school year) in the context of F…

Eduardo González, Ana Cárcaba et al.•ARTICLE•Local Government Studies•2011•Citada por: 7•Referencias: 22

Measuring quality of life in municipalities entails two empirical challenges. First, collecting a set of relevant indicators that can be compared across the municipalities in the sample. Secondly, using an appropriate aggregating tool in order to construct a synthetic index. This paper measures quality of life for the largest 237 Spanish municipalities using Value Efficiency Analysis (VEA) to derive comparative scores by combining the information…

This paper analyses the evolution of productivity in Spanish public hospitals during the period characterised by the use of program‐contracts. The results demonstrate that a significant improvement has occurred. The decomposition of the Malmquist productivity index shows that efficiency change has been the main contributor to productivity improvement. We also analyse the dynamic implications of program‐contract bargaining. In particular, the data…

Jean-Pierre Vernant has described the status of artisans in ancient Greece in terms of utmost pertinence.9 Working under a system of values which raised the use of products over their making, artisans made objects whose worth depended on the designs of their…

Family Secrets and the Psychoanalysis of Narrative is the first book to explore the implications of the psychoanalytic theory of the phantom for the study of narrative literature. A phantom is formed when a shameful, unspeakable secret is unwittingly transmitted, through cryptic language and behavior, transgenerationally from one family member to another. The "haunted" individual to whom the "encrypted" secret is communicated becomes the unwittin…

  • Conquest of the New Word

Eduardo González, Johnny Payne•ARTICLE•Hispanic American Historical Review•1995

Latin American fiction won great acclaim in the United States during the 1960s, when many North American writers and critics felt that our national writing had reached a low ebb. In this study of experimental fiction from both Americas, Johnny Payne argues that the North American reception of the boom in Latin American fiction distorted the historical grounding of this writing, erroneously presenting it as mainly an exotic magical realism. He off…
