Of the five physical senses, touch is perhaps the most broadly used in metaphorical and analogic meanings. To be “touched,” or for something to be “touching,” can be interpreted in a variety of ways depending on context and shared understanding. The Transmodern and Trans Desi Migrant Aesthetics
This essay considers the uses of transmodernity as an organizing principle for contemporary transgender, second-generation migrant aesthetics, and in particular those of two very public Indian writers working in North America, Alok Vaid-Menon and Vivek Shraya.
