Entrepreneurial familism is a concept formulated by Siu Lun Wong to challenge the modernization theorists' negative interpretation of the traditional Chinese family. Entrepreneurial familism has three components: paternalistic management (the use of the family metaphor to manage the company), nepotism (the hiring of the boss's relatives), and the family mode of ownership. This feature is explicable by the low level of government intervention in industrial relations, the development of the labor movement, and the Asian financial crisis that accentuated employers' prerogatives in employment relations

Observing the growing number and intensity of peasant struggles in the Chinese countryside, examined here is why Chinese peasants protest against township government but not against the central state.
