Ted Kaptchuk (泰开阳) is a Professor of Medicine and a Professor of Global Health & Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Patients’ experiences treated with open-label placebo versus double-blind placebo
OLP and DBP participants share feelings of hope, uncertainty and curiosity but differ in the extent of conscious reflection. The counter-intuitive OLP prompts more self-examination, ambivalent feelings and active engagement compared to DBP. At the same time, OLP participants are more reluctant to attribute symptom improvement to their treatment. Genotypes of Pain and Analgesia in a Randomized Trial of Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Previously reported association between COMT rs4680 genotype and treatment response as measured by IBS-SSS is related to pain severity, but not pain frequency. We also identified new candidate genes associated with changes in IBS pain severity ( SNX13 ) and pain frequency ( L3MBTL4 ) in response to treatment. We used the 2012 National Health Interview Survey to compare homeopathy users with supplement users and those using other forms of complementary and integrative medicine.
