  • Women’s experiences of living with lipedema

Open Access•Catharina Melander, Päivi Juuso et al.•ARTICLE•Health Care For Women International•2021

Lipedema is a chronic, progressive disease that almost exclusively affects women and often misdiagnosed as obesity or primary lymphedema. Research concerning lipedema is sparse, and there is a lack of studies focusing on women's experiences of living with the illness. We interviewed fourteen women with lipedema with the aim of describing their experiences of living with lipedema. Our results show that women felt controlled by their body, and were…

  • Meanings of Being Received and Met by Others as Experienced by Women With Fibromyalgia

    Open Access•Päivi Juuso, Lisa Skär et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Health Research•2014•Citada por: 5•Referencias: 37

Fibromyalgia (FM) is a common chronic pain syndrome that mostly affects middle-aged women. Our aim with this study was to elucidate meanings of being received and met by others as experienced by women with FM. Interviews with a narrative approach were conducted with 9 women. We analyzed the transcribed interviews with a phenomenological hermeneutical interpretation. The findings revealed two themes: being seen as a malingerer and being acknowledg…

  • Meanings of Fatigue for Women With Parkinson's Disease

Open Access•Malin Olsson, Lena Stafström et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Health Research•2013•Referencias: 44

The existing knowledge of women's experiences of living with Parkinson's disease and fatigue is limited. To gain first-hand knowledge, we interviewed 11 women using a phenomenological hermeneutic interpretation. The results indicate that the familiar daily routines of women with Parkinson's disease had changed in the sense that their bodily attachment to the world had been altered. The body no longer provided smooth access to the surrounding worl…

  • Meanings of Feeling Well for Women With Fibromyalgia

Päivi Juuso, Lisa Skär et al.•ARTICLE•Health Care For Women International•2012

The researchers' focus in this study was to elucidate meanings of feeling well for women with fibromyalgia (FM). We obtained narrative interviews with 13 women with FM and used a phenomenological-hermeneutic interpretation to analyze the interview texts. Our interpretation of the findings shows that for women with FM meanings of feeling well can be understood as having strength to be involved. The women's experiences of feeling well meant being i…

  • Meanings of Feeling Well for Women With Multiple Sclerosis

    Open Access•Malin Olsson, Lisa Skär et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Health Research•2010•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 42

In research concerning multiple sclerosis (MS), the factors that impact on people's well-being and quality of life have been studied, but little has been written about what it means to feel well for women with MS. Therefore, in this study our aim was to describe meanings of feeling well for women with MS. We interviewed 15 women with MS, and a phenomenological hermeneutic interpretation was utilized to analyze the interviews. Through this study i…

  • The Meaning of Women's Experiences of Living With Multiple Sclerosis

Malin Olsson, Jan Lexell et al.•ARTICLE•Health Care For Women International•2008

We conducted a qualitative inquiry in order to describe the meaning of women's experiences of living with multiple sclerosis (MS). Multiple sclerosis is a chronic autoimmune disease of the central nervous system. The majority of persons living with MS are women. Living with MS has been described as difficult because of the uncertainty of the illness. Ten women with MS were interviewed and the interviews were analyzed with a phenomenological herme…

  • Bone Mineral Density in Male Baltic Grey Seal (Halichoerus grypus)

P Monica Lind, Anders Bergman et al.•ARTICLE•AMBIO•2003•Referencias: 15

Bone mineral density (mg cm−3) was studied in male Baltic grey seals (4–23 years of age) by noninvasive computed tomography (pQCT). The material was grouped according to year of collection. Group A: 1850–1955, a period before the main introduction of organochlorines (OCs); Group B: 1965–1985, a period with very high OC contamination; and Group C: 1986–1997, a period with decreasing concentrations of OCs. The reproducibility of the measurements wa…

  • Depression in mothers and fathers of children with intellectual disability

    Open Access•Malin Olsson, M B Olsson et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Intellectual…•2001

Parental depression was assessed using the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) in 216 families with children with autism and/or intellectual disability (ID), and in 214 control families. Mothers with children with autism had higher depression scores (mean = 11.8) than mothers of children with ID without autism (mean = 9.2), who in turn, had higher depression scores than fathers of children with autism (mean = 6.2), fathers of children with ID without…

  • Eutrophication and Contaminants in Aquatic Ecosystems

Jens Skei, Per Larsson et al.•ARTICLE•AMBIO•2000•Citada por: 1

Eutrophication and persistent pollutants are two of the main environmental problems in European marine and freshwater ecosystems. As they tend to co-occur, interactive processes between eutrophication and contaminants are suggested, that may lead to environmental effects that cannot be predicted from each process alone. In order to predict the consequences of remedial measures (changing the input of organic matter, nutrients and contaminants) it …

  • Comparison of Temporal Trends (1940s–1990s) of DDT and PCB in Baltic Sediment and Biota in Relation to Eutrophication

Malin Olsson, Mats Olsson et al.•ARTICLE•AMBIO•2000•Citada por: 5

Comparative temporal trend studies of ΣDDT and PCB on the Baltic pollution, using matrices from Baltic biota and dated lamina from sediment cores in anoxic sediment areas of the Baltic (no bioturbation) have been carried out. Chemical analyses of consecutive laminas of the cores representing individual years were compared to long-term temporal trend monitoring of Baltic biota based on annual sampling and analyses. Earlier studies of sediment core…
