State and life in Cuba
Based on our collective ethnography of Cuba’s socialist system for the provision of state-subsidised food, this article explores manners in which the state weaves itself into the fabric of people’s everyday lives in state-socialist society. Instituted by Cuba’s revolutionary government in the early 1960s, Cuba’s ‘state system for provisioning’ is still today the backbone of household subsistence, propelling individuals into direct daily relations…

Definitive evidence, from Cuban gods
Based on evidence collected during fieldwork among practitioners of Afro-Cuban religion in Havana, this paper seeks 'recursively' to redefine the notion of anthropological evidence itself. It does so by examining ethnographically practitioners' concern with the 'evidence' deities give (e.g. successful divinations, divine cures, etc.), by virtue of which people's relationships with deities are cemented. Transcendental Perspectivism
This article explores the concept of "transcendental perspectivism," drawing on ethnographic research among the Yukaghir hunters of Siberia. It argues that Yukaghir cosmology, rather than simply attributing human-like perspectives to animals, posits a radical de-centering of perspective, where the "human" is but one viewpoint among many, and where the very notion of a fixed subject position is challenged. This transcendental perspectivism allows …
Expending Multiplicity
Countering the assumption that money acts as an agent of abstraction and 'disembedment', anthropologists tend to draw money into analogies with other objects of exchange, downplaying its uniquely quantitative nature. This article seeks to disentangle the association, implicit in this tendency, of quantity with abstraction.
