  • Interactive affective sharing versus non-interactive affective sharing in work groups

    Open Access•Annefloor Klep, Annefloor H M Klep et al.•ARTICLE•European Journal of Social…•2011•Referencias: 68

This study explores whether the dynamic path to group affect, which is characterized by interactive affective sharing processes, yields different effects on task performance and group dynamics than the static path to group affect, which arises from non-interactive affective sharing. The results of our experiment with 70 three-person work groups show that groups performed better on creative tasks than on analytical tasks when they were in a positi…

  • Improvement in Detection of Differential Item Functioning Using a Mixture Item Response Theory Model

Annette M Maij-de Meij, Henk Kelderman et al.•ARTICLE•Multivariate Behavioral Research•2010

Usually, methods for detection of differential item functioning (DIF) compare the functioning of items across manifest groups. However, the manifest groups with respect to which the items function differentially may not necessarily coincide with the true source of the bias. It is expected that DIF detection under a model that includes a latent DIF variable is more sensitive to this source of bias. In a simulation study, it is shown that a mixture…

  • Using multiple and specific criteria to assess the predictive validity of the Big Five personality factors on academic performance

Open Access•Rutger Kappe, Henk Van Der Flier•ARTICLE•Journal of Research in Personality•2010•Citada por: 5•Referencias: 12

  • The Cross-Cultural Generalizability of the Theory of Planned Behavior

    Open Access•Edwin A J Van Hooft, Marise Ph Born et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Cross-Cultural…•2006•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 12

This study examined the cross-cultural generalizability of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) as applied to job seeking, by comparing samples of native Dutch and Turkish individuals in The Netherlands. Results support the equivalence of the measures used. Moreover, the TPB relationships are found to be comparable across the two samples. Contrary to the predictions, intentions of Turkish individuals are not affected more by subjective norms and …

  • Latent-Trait Latent-Class Analysis of Self-Disclosure in the Work Environment

Annette M Maij-de Meij, Henk Kelderman et al.•ARTICLE•Multivariate Behavioral Research•2005

Based on the literature about self-disclosure, it was hypothesized that different groups of subjects differ in their pattern of self-disclosure with respect to different areas of social interaction. An extended latent-trait latent-class model was proposed to describe these general patterns of self-disclosure. The model was used to analyze the data of 1,113 subjects, tested on extraversion and with respect to their degree of self-disclosure toward…

  • Group Differences in Mean Intelligence for the Dutch and Third World Immigrants

Open Access•Jan te Nijenhuis, Henk Van Der Flier•ARTICLE•Journal of Biosocial Science•2001

Evidence from eleven samples indicates that the mean IQ of third world immigrants in the Netherlands is lower than the Dutch mean by approximately one standard deviation for Surinamese and Antillians, and by approximately one and a half standard deviations for Turks and Moroccans. Since IQ tests provide the best prediction of success in school and organizations, it could be that the immigrants’ lower mean IQ is an important factor in their low st…

  • Cross-Cultural Comparison of Sex-Related Differences on Intelligence Tests

Open Access•Marise Ph Born, Nico Bleichrodt et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Cross-Cultural…•1987•Citada por: 5•Referencias: 12

Cross-cultural generalizability of the relation between sex and intelligence is examined by means of a meta-analysis of 189 studies. For this purpose, the statistical significance and the size of sex-related differences in cognitive factors corresponding to Thurstone's intelligence model are studied. Furthermore, the variance in significance and in size of the sex-intelligence relationship is investigated for five large clusters of cultures. Alth…

  • Deviant Response Patterns and Comparability of Test Scores

    Open Access•Henk Van Der Flier•ARTICLE•Journal of Cross-Cultural…•1982•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 9

This study deals with theoretical and methodological problems relating to the comparison of test results of individuals and groups with differing cultural backgrounds. An analysis of the score patterns on test items can be used to identify individuals and groups for whom the test scores have a deviant meaning. A statistic is developed by which the deviance of score patterns can be quantified and which indicates whether or not a person's test scor…
