Documenting a Geographical Issue and Its Consequences Using Photovoice as a Pedagogical Tool in Geography Education
This study examines the application of photovoice as a pedagogical tool in a geography class. The main stages of photovoice were modified to suit the context for learning about a geographical issue, animal rights in relation to street cats in South Korea. Data were collected, and grounded theory was applied for the analysis. Based on the results, the paper discusses the implications of photovoice as a pedagogical tool for helping student learn ge…

At times geography has experienced periods of immense popularity and at other times it has taken a backseat within …
Rethinking Postgraduate Geography Education in the USA
Postgraduate geography education in the USA is growing and changing. In recent years, the number of postgraduate programs has increased at both the doctoral and master's levels. Interest in improving and reforming doctoral education has increased dramatically both inside and outside geography, and geography has been involved in these reforms. Master's programs in the USA face somewhat different concerns. One difference is that, in some respects, …
Lauching Geographic Education in to the 21st Century
Geographic education in the United States has experienced an unprecedented resurgence in the schools during the past two decades. There are several compelling reasons for a revival of the discipline, among them a thoroughly documented level of geographic illiteracy in the school age population that raised the ire of politicians, parents, and geographers alike (The Gallop Organization, 1988). This paper discusses the way that educational reform ha…

Migration and the Local Economic Factor in Rural Mexico
There are two principal objectives in this study. The first is to determine the relationship between population change of a municipio from all sources and the change accounted for only by migration. The authors postulate that the high relationship between the two permits the substitution of general population change statistics for the more desirable migration statistics when the latter are not available, as often occurs when field study is not po…
