  • What do derivational paradigms tell us about back-formation and what does back-formation tell us about derivational paradigms

    Open Access•Nabil Hathout, Fiammetta Namer•ARTICLE•WORD Structure•2025•Referencias: 34

Back-formation is the process that leads to the coinage of a lexeme by deleting a sequence present in the base, such as the verb babysit from the noun babysitter. Back-formed words exhibit a distortion between a meaning that is more complex than that of their base and a form that is simpler. The very nature of this process remains to be established. Our study suggests that back-formation (i) encompasses multiple realities, (ii) performs a formal …

  • Exploring terminological relations between multi-word terms in distributional semantic models

Open Access•Yizhe Wang, Béatrice Daille et al.•ARTICLE•Terminology International Journal…•2024

A term is a lexical unit with specialized meaning in a particular domain. Terms may be simple (STs) or multi-word (MWTs). The organization of terms gives a representation of the structure of domain knowledge, which is based on the relationships between the concepts of the domain. However, relations between MWTs are often underrepresented in terminology resources. This work aims to explore distributional semantic models for capturing terminologica…

  • ParaDis

    Open Access•Nabil Hathout, Fiammetta Namer•ARTICLE•Morphology•2022•Citada por: 4•Referencias: 38

The unification of inflectional and derivational morphology is an issue that is often debated but on which there is no consensus. On the other hand, it is well known that inflectional morphology is organized into paradigms. This paper contributes to the convergence between inflection and derivation by offering a new paradigmatic model of derivational morphology. This model, called ParaDis, is based on two types of objects, families and paradigms,…
