Motherless Subjects and Mothered Selves
This article contrasts the theories of ego formation put forward in Jacques Lacan's 'The Mirror Stage' and Donald Winnicott's 'The Mirror Role of the Mother,' and discusses their methodological implications for the field of American studies.
