A Comparison of the Fading of Dyestuffs as Textile Colourants and Lake Pigments
Dyed wool samples and lake pigments prepared from the same dyestuffs were exposed to light over the course of 14 months. Brazilwood or sappanwood, cochineal, madder, and weld were used for both wools and pigments, with the addition of dyer’s broom, indigo, and tannin-containing black dyes for the wools and eosin for the pigments. Exploring the role of need for cognition, field independence and locus of control on the incidence of lucid dreams during a 12-week induction study
This article reports an investigation of two proposed theories, the predispositional and experiential, regarding the association of personality variables to lucid dreaming incidence during a 12-week lucid dreaming induction programme. The study found no differences between those who did and did not report lucid dreams during the programme on baseline measures of Field Independence, Locus of Control or Need for Cognition. More than 2,000 “nonsense” inscriptions (meaningless strings of Greek letters) appear on ancient Greek vases. We ask whether some nonsense inscriptions and nonGreek words associated with figures of Scythians and Amazons represent meaningful sounds (phonemes) in foreign languages spoken in “Scythia” (Black Sea-Caucasus region). Individual Perception, Bargaining Behavior, and Negotiation Outcomes
This study explores a model of the relationships between negotiators' perceptions of the negotiation situation, their behavior, and negotiation outcomes, using data collected in Canada and China. The results show that while Chinese negotiators are more concerned with maintaining good relations in the negotiation process, Canadian negotiators put more weight on their individual economic gains from negotiation. Extraneous Factors in Institutionalization for Mental Retardation
Analyses of demographic factors associated with admissions rates into institutions for the mentally retarded, by Ontario county of residence, uncovered a paradox: Counties with lesser proportions of children had higher admissions rates. Further analyses showed that proportions of children were directly related to education expenditures, per student, and expenditures were inversely related to, and accounted for 41% of the variance of, admissions r…
