In sub-Saharan Africa, girls' daily household chores often involve fetching water for their households. This article addresses the impact of uncertain water access in semi-urban Cameroon given the problems of rapid urbanization and increasing demands for water. A school competition engaged youth and key water sector actors in a dialogue about the water crisis in Buea town, and this resulted in the publication of the water distribution schedule. T…

Photographs taken by women and men through a photovoice research project about conservation in rural Sierra Leone identify water as an important community resource. Water is crucial for survival. In this rural African context, women are responsible for collecting and managing domestic water. The points of access to water-taps, rivers, and wells-occupy and construct particular spaces. Baseline Health, Socioeconomic Status, and 10-Year Mortality Among Older Middle-Aged Americans
Baseline health by age 50 is an important pathway in the association between midlife socioeconomic status and mortality risk to age 70. The continuing effect of low household income on mortality risk was concentrated among respondents reporting excellent to good health at baseline. Socioeconomic disparities in middle-age health continue to limit disability-free life expectancy at older ages
