  • Is Social Jetlag Associated With Physical Fitness Among Spanish Adolescents? Insights From the EHDLA Study

Open Access•Camila Miño, Antonio García-Hermoso et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Human Biology•2025

BACKGROUND: The misalignment of sleeping times during weekdays/weekends (i.e., social jetlag) is particularly common among adolescents and plausibly associated with their physical fitness. However, literature on this topic is scarce. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the association between social jetlag and physical fitness in Spanish adolescents. METHODS: A secondary analysis was conducted on cross-sectional data from the Eating Health…

Open Access•Austin E Schumacher, Hmwe Hmwe Kyu et al.•ARTICLE•The Lancet•2024

BACKGROUND: Estimates of demographic metrics are crucial to assess levels and trends of population health outcomes. The profound impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on populations worldwide has underscored the need for timely estimates to understand this unprecedented event within the context of long-term population health trends. The Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2021 provides new demographic estimates for 204 cou…

  • A study on user willingness to participate in an adverse drug event information sharing system

    Open Access•Suhyun Lee, Su-Hyun Lee et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2024

Our findings indicate that the approach to sharing personal ADE information should be distinct from that of sharing comprehensive health information. Notably, users are likely to willingly disclose their personal information even if they are not anonymized, owing to the significant perceived benefits of sharing. The findings of this study can enhance awareness about sharing personal ADE information and contribute to the successful establishment o…

Open Access•Lee Smith, Guillermo F López Sánchez et al.•ARTICLE•The Journals of Gerontology…•2024•Referencias: 2

Mild cognitive impairment was significantly associated with higher odds for suicidal ideation among older adults in LMICs. Future longitudinal studies from LMICs are necessary to assess whether MCI is a risk factor for suicidal ideation

2020-2021 Healthy Minds Study, and used multivariable logistic regression to examine the associations between sexual minority status and psychotic experiences, adjusting for age, gender, and race/ethnicity. We then tested whether psychosocial factors accounted for the association. Sexual minority status was associated with 1.87 times greater odds of having psychotic experiences over the past 12 months (aOR: 1.87; 95% CI: 1.77-1.99; N = 110,551). …

  • Sociodemographic inequalities in mortality from drowning in the Baltic countries and Finland in 2000–2015

Open Access•Andrew Stickley, Aleksei Baburin et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2023

Despite a sharp reduction in deaths from drowning in the Baltic countries and Finland in 2000-2015, drowning mortality was still high in these countries at the end of the study period with a substantially larger risk of death seen among men, rural residents and low educated individuals. A concerted effort to prevent drowning mortality among those most at risk may reduce drownings considerably in the general population

Open Access•Emma Nichols, Jaimie D Steinmetz et al.•ARTICLE•The Lancet Public Health•2022

BACKGROUND: Given the projected trends in population ageing and population growth, the number of people with dementia is expected to increase. In addition, strong evidence has emerged supporting the importance of potentially modifiable risk factors for dementia. Characterising the distribution and magnitude of anticipated growth is crucial for public health planning and resource prioritisation. This study aimed to improve on previous forecasts of…

Open Access•Elena Dragioti, Michael Steward et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Medical Virology•2022

The COVID‐19 pandemic and related restrictions can impact mental health. To quantify the mental health burden of COVID‐19 pandemic, we conducted a systematic review and meta‐analysis, searching World Health Organization COVID‐19/PsycInfo/PubMed databases (09/29/2020), including observational studies reporting on mental health outcomes in any population affected by COVID‐19. Primary outcomes were the prevalence of anxiety, depression, stress, slee…

  • Handgrip Strength Is Associated With Hippocampal Volume and White Matter Hyperintensities in Major Depression and Healthy Controls

    Josh A Firth, Jung-Im Shin et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosomatic Medicine•2020

OBJECTIVE: Emerging evidence suggests that handgrip strength (a proxy for muscular fitness) is associated with better cognitive performance in people with major depressive disorder (MDD). The underlying processes are unclear, although hippocampal volume (HCV) reductions and white matter hyperintensities (WMHs) have been implicated. Therefore, we investigated the associations between handgrip strength and various brain region volumes and WMHs in M…
