Phoenicia in the Later Iron Age
A coherent history of Phoenicia between 1000 and 550 bce is difficult to write. The internal development of individual city-states is almost completely unknown. We can only get a glimpse of their foreign relations. This book looks at the 942 artifacts of foreign origin - from Anatolia, Cyprus, Egypt, Italy, Mesopotamia, and Syro-Palestine - which have been found in the late Bronze Age Aegean area. These objects represent the only group of material in the LBA Aegean that has not disintegrated or disappeared, and as such are unique in providing information about the complex trade networks of the period. Carved Ivories from Til Barsib
Twelve carved ivories were discovered at Tell Ahmar (ancient Til Barsib) in Syria from excavations conducted by the University of Melbourne. The majority of the ivories come from the destruction debris of the earliest occupation phase of a large domestic structure (building CI).
