Under what conditions does a doctor battle to save the life of the patient, and when does he decide to withdraw medical treatment and allow death to occur? The answers to thes…

Robert H Coombs, William F Kenkel•ARTICLE•Journal of Marriage and the Family•1966•Citada por: 8

The structural-functional views of Talcott Parsons are used as the rationale for predicting sex differences in dating aspirations and partner satisfaction. Blind dates were arranged for 500 male and 500 female students by an I.B.M. computer. Evidence was found to support the hypotheses that 1) women would have higher aspirations for a dating partner, in the sense of more socially desired characteristics, than would men; and that 2) women would re…

  • Value Consensus and Partner Satisfaction among Dating Couples

Robert H Coombs•ARTICLE•Journal of Marriage and the Family•1966•Citada por: 1

This paper focuses on a theory of mate selection which suggests that interpersonal attraction is facilitated when persons share or perceive themselves as sharing similar value orientations. A library review found consistent evidence for this theory and indicated that reciprocal rewards of communication ease and self-validation relate to value consensus. An empirical study of dating couples found support for the following hypotheses: 1) satisfacti…
