  • Educational justice in contemporary scholarship

Open Access•Claudia Matus, Claudia Lorena Matus Cánovas et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Education•2026

Over the past two decades, educational justice has become a prominent yet debated concept in global educational policy and theory. Despite its frequent use, the term lacks a widely accepted definition and is theorized through diverse—often conflicting—frameworks. This article presents a systematic review of 40 peer-reviewed publications in English and Spanish published between 2009 and 2024, retrieved from Scopus, Web of Science, and Scielo. Usin…

  • Emergency Cash Transfers in Chile during the Covid-19 Pandemic

    Open Access•Lorena Pérez-Roa, Gabriela Azócar et al.•ARTICLE•Latin American Perspectives•2026

This article examines how the COVID-19 pandemic and Chile’s Emergency Family Income (IFE) reshaped households in the Social Household Registry (RSH). Using administrative data (2016–2021), we analyze the emergence of "new" and "disaggregated" households—those newly registered or formed by splitting from existing units—compared to stable ones. Findings show that the IFE’s expansion toward universality coincided with a dramatic increase in register…

  • Gender Bias Versus Gender Violence in Higher Education

Open Access•Claudia Lorena Matus Cánovas, Valentina Riberi et al.•ARTICLE•Social Sciences•2024•Referencias: 16

While gender inequality continues to be widely reported as a problem and global priority, there has been a general pattern of progress in the last 25 years. In the academic world, this has meant an increase in women’s enrollment in higher education and the female academic workforce. Despite visible progress, significant problems remain, particularly gender violence within academia, which is often underexplored or understudied. From queer feminist…

  • The Agency of Difference in Chilean School Policies and Practices

    Open Access•Claudia Lorena Matus Cánovas, Valentina Riberi•ARTICLE•Social Sciences•2022•Referencias: 9

In this paper, we explore the active production of difference (as lacking) through the School Vulnerability Index and the School Inclusion Law in Chile. Through a diffractive reading, we present the contradiction between these two policies. While discriminatory knowledge about school subjects is produced in the School Vulnerability Index as truth and common knowledge for the school community, the School Inclusion Law is designed to solve practice…

  • An Ethnography of Vulnerability

    Open Access•Valentina Riberi, Eduardo González et al.•ARTICLE•Anthropology & Education Quarterly•2021•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 34

During an ethnographic study of two Chilean schools over a period of three years, we observed the discursive assemblage of "what is vulnerable" emerging from an algorithm used to allocate public resources. In this article, we unravel the ways in which the algorithm intra-acts with other elements in the process of producing what is vulnerable and how this affects our approach to ethnography. We conclude by considering two methodological dilemmas t…
