As part of our process evaluation into the implementation of gender responsive rehabilitation (GRR) programing at the women’s jail in L.A. County, we documented the planning, rationale, design, implementation, and execution of policies related to GRR. A number of approaches have been used to obtain community members' health perspectives. Health services researchers often conduct focus groups while political scientists and community groups may hold forums. Remarkable disparities in smoking rates in the United States contribute significantly to socioeconomic and minority health disparities. Access to treatment for tobacco use can help address these disparities, but quitlines, our most ubiquitous treatment resource, reach just 1%-2% of smokers. Type 2 diabetes is considered a public health crisis, particularly among people of Mexican descent in the United States. Clinical approaches to diabetes management increasingly emphasize self-care, which places responsibility for illness on individuals and mandates self-regulation. Practice innovations in mental health services to children and families
This research report highlights selected findings that describe the characteristics of excellent, innovative programs for high‐risk children and adolescents in Massachusetts. The conclusions reported are based on interviews with administrators and providers at nine sites. This paper is based on a collaborative research inquiry with women who were formerly anorectic. Drawing on histories of female fasting, feminist cultural criticism, and women's psychology, the study examines the themes of voice and communication and develops relational research practices that allow a person to experience herself as whole. Teaching a Feminist Family Therapy
This article presents an overview of pedagogical principles based on feminist and social constructionist ideas, in the particular context of a master's degree program in social work. General approaches to the feminist enterprise of elevating subjugated voices and social constructionist emphasis on multiple perspectives are discussed, along with some specific classroom applications, and then linked to teaching about other forms of oppression
