  • Test of the lateral angle method of sex estimation on Anglo‐Saxon and medieval archaeological populations with genetically estimated sex

Open Access•J Eric Thompson, Sarah Inskip et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2024•Referencias: 23

The lateral angle method of sex estimation is tested on an archaeological population with genetic sex estimates. Casts of the internal auditory canal were made using a quick drying impression material on 90 individuals (76 adults and 14 nonadults) from Anglo‐Saxon and Medieval Cambridgeshire. The anterior and posterior angles of the internal auditory canal were measured, and the relationship of the angle to genetic sex was tested. The posterior a…

  • Effects of a psychological and physiotherapeutic intervention on the occurrence of injuries (Efectos de una intervención psicológica y fisioterapeútica sobre la ocurrencia de lesiones)

Open Access•Patricia Catalá, Cecilia Peñacoba et al.•ARTICLE•Cultura Ciencia y Deporte•2021

This study aims to analyse the effects of a psychological intervention focused on motivation and anxiety, in combination with a physiotherapy program, upon the occurrence of injuries. The participants were 22 male soccer players (age = 23.31, SD = 4.24). The instruments used were injury protocol, Competitive State Anxiety Inventory 2 (CSAI-2) and Behavioral Regulation in Sport Questionnaire (BRSQ). The program lasted twelve sessions a periodicity…

  • Towards a Best Practice for the Use of Active Non-contact Surface Scanning to Record Human Skeletal Remains from Archaeological Contexts

    Open Access•David Errickson, I Grueso et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2017•Citada por: 4•Referencias: 54

Active surface scanners emit light or a laser stripe to record the exterior surface of an object or landscape, providing results in three dimensions. The use of active surface scanners to record anthropological and archaeological contexts has increased within the last few years, creating a number of sub-contexts within these disciplines and allowing a further development of certain applications, such as quantitative analysis, the use of replicas …

  • Socioeconomic status and weight control practices in British adults

    J Wardle, J Griffith•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2001•Citada por: 28•Referencias: 16

STUDY OBJECTIVE: Attitudes and practices concerning weight control in British adults were examined to test the hypothesis that variation in concern about weight and deliberate weight control might partly explain the socioeconomic status (SES) gradient in obesity. Higher SES groups were hypothesised to show more weight concern and higher levels of dieting. SETTING: Data were collected as part of the monthly Omnibus Survey of the Office of National…

  • Geomorphological Investigations for the Channel Tunnel Terminal and Portal

    J Griffith, J S Griffiths et al.•ARTICLE•Geographical Journal•1995

Extensive geomorphological investigations of the Channel Tunnel UK portal and terminal site were commissioned by TML during 1986/87, prior to the commencement of the detailed ground investigations. These studies were primarily concerned with identifying and delimiting the spatial extent of landforms, superficial materials and in particular the evidence for contemporary or relict slope instability. The investigations took the form of large-scale (…

  • Cotinine concentrations in semen, urine, and blood of smokers and nonsmokers

    M F Vine, B S Hulka et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•1993•Referencias: 5

Cotinine levels in the semen, urine, and blood of 88 male smokers and nonsmokers, aged 18 to 35, were analyzed via radioimmunoassay. Detectable cotinine levels were found in all three body fluids, and cotinine levels in all three fluids were highly correlated. Cotinine levels in semen and blood were of similar magnitude; cotinine levels in urine were an order of magnitude or more higher. In all three fluids, cotinine levels increased with an incr…
