This text is an Ixll version of the discovery of can. Ayres notes that Ixil is spoken in Nebaj, Chajul and Cotzal in the north of the Department of Bl Quiché, although a significant number of speakers have had to leave the region. Xhas Ko'v is from Nebaj, and that dialect varies slightly from that of Chajul and Cotzal. An outline and analysis of the story is given by Colby.
