D imaging of the Parthenon sculptures
Ambitious plaster casting campaigns were embarked upon in the 19th century. These were often led by archaeologists and intended to record in situ ancient sculptures at risk of deterioration. Couples wishing to have biological children when one partner is HIV positive and the other is HIV negative present clinicians with complex clinical, social and ethical considerations. We established two multidisciplinary pre-conception services for HIV-positive individuals and their partners. Non-durational indices in Italian geminate consonants
This paper presents the results of an electropalatographic investigation into non-durational properties of Italian consonant gemination. The evidence suggests a more palatalised tongue configuration during the production of geminate coronal sonorants and stops than in their non-geminate counterparts. Evidence is also found of differences in the active articulator, with a laminal articulation more characteristic of geminates, and an apical articul…
Phonetic variation in Italian consonant gemination
This paper presents findings on the articulatory and prosodic conditioning of Italian (lexical and post-lexical) geminate and non-geminate consonants. Phonetic and phonological prominence interact, resulting in a durational contrast which is not uniformly robust. So-called ‘inherent’ geminates are also found to be long post-consonantally, contrary to received wisdom, and do not form ‘supergeminates’ in conditions of postlexical gemination. Forman…
