Financial officers, the municipal swap industry and the rise of risky innovations among states
At the turn of the millennium, US states started to employ debt-related derivatives. Surprisingly, the prevalence of these instruments among states peaked soon after the first corporate scandals involving such complex financial tools. Why did states embrace swaps? Decision Making About Gastrostomy and Noninvasive Ventilation in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis
We used thematic analysis to investigate factors affecting decision making about gastrostomy and noninvasive ventilation (NIV) by people with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) from the viewpoint of the health care professionals (HCPs) supporting them. We conducted 20 in-depth interviews with 19 HCPs nominated by people with ALS who had made a decision to accept or decline NIV or gastrostomy. We found the main themes influencing decision making …

This study investigated how gender influenced language use in fiction. The writings of 59 female and 52 male authors of either award-winning or popular fiction were classified as early or contemporary depending on period of publication. More than one third of the linguistic variables coded for in the literature varied on the basis of author gender.
