What do we know about tooth weathering? A neotaphonomic study on mammals from the Argentine Pampas
Late Neandertal occupations in a Galician mountain valley during MIS 3
In this paper we analyze the last Neanderthal occupations in Cova Eirós (level 3, 41.7-39 ka cal. BP). This site is located in the northwestern Iberian Peninsula, at a prominent and strategic place in the small valley of Cancelo (Tricastela, Lugo, Spain), just at the intersection of the Cantabrian and western Atlantic basins. The occupations of level 3 of Cova Eirós show the survival of small, isolated Mousterian communities in mountainous and ma…
Expanding the Faunal Interpretation of the Cova Eirós (NW Iberia) Middle Paleolithic–Early Upper Paleolithic Record With ZooMS
The Cova Eirós archaeopaleontological site preserves the most comprehensive archaeostratigraphic sequence in the northwestern Iberian Peninsula, with an exceptionally rich record spanning from the Mousterian to the Upper Paleolithic. The extensive fragmentation of the faunal record and the rich taxonomic diversity at this site have limited the identifiability of the remains and led to an overrepresentation of the main taxa ( Ursus spelaeus and Ce…
Influences of seasonal prey availability and anthropogenic landscape on small-vertebrate based palaeoecological reconstructions
Birds of prey and carnivorous mammals are among the primary accumulating agents of faunal remains, mainly isolated bones and teeth in the karst sediment sites. The microvertebrate remains from their feces and pellets tend to be usually dispersed in the sediment at El Mirador cave (Atapuerca, Spain). Although, twenty small accumulations have been recovered in the Chalcolithic (MIR5) and Bronze Age (MIR4) levels. These accumulations contain an extr…
Landscape and subsistence in NW Iberia during the Middle Palaeolithic (MIS3)
Unravelling the past of cervid populations on the Pearl Island Archipelago (Panama) through a two dimensional geometric morphometric analysis of the lower third molar
Palaeoecological reconstructions of the Middle to Late Pleistocene occupations in the Southern Caucasus using rodent assemblages
Located at the crossroads between Africa, Europe and Asia, the Southern Caucasus is a prime location to study occupations byH. heidelbergensis,H. neanderthalensisand anatomically modern humans. Azokh Cave is an important site for the understanding of human evolution in its archaeological, palaeontological, environmental and ecological context. The main objective of this work is to use rodents to infer the climatic and environmental conditions tha…
