  • Late Holocene coastal dynamics south of the Chanthaburi estuary, eastern Gulf of Thailand

Open Access•Armelle Ballian, Sakonvan Chawchai et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2024

Beach ridges are depositional features that allow reconstruction of past sea-level variations, sediment dynamics, and storm activity. However, there are still very few systematic studies focusing on beach ridges available from the Gulf of Thailand. Along the east coast, satellite images provide evidence of beach ridges in the Chanthaburi Province, extending as far as 6 km inland, oriented parallel to the current coastline. These can be divided in…

  • Multi-proxy approach to identify the origin of high energy coastal deposits from Laem Son National Park, Andaman Sea of Thailand

Open Access•Stapana Kongsen, Sumet Phantuwongraj et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2022

  • First human impacts and responses of aquatic systems

    Open Access•Nathalie Dubois, Émilie Saulnier-Talbot et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropocene Review•2018

Lake sediments constitute natural archives of past environmental changes. Historically, research has focused mainly on generating regional climate records, but records of human impacts caused by land use and exploitation of freshwater resources are now attracting scientific and management interests. Long-term environmental records are useful to establish ecosystem reference conditions, enabling comparisons with current environments and potentiall…

  • Societal response to monsoonal fluctuations in NE Thailand during the demise of Angkor Civilisation

    Open Access•Kweku Afrifa Yamoah, C Higham et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2017•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 5

This paper investigates the possible social responses to changes in the strength of the southwest monsoon in northeastern Thailand during the currency of the Angkor civilisation. These assessments are based on hydrogen and carbon isotope records of leaf waxes (δD wax and δ 13 C wax ) from a 2000-year-long wetland sequence of Pa Kho in northeastern Thailand, a region that formed the northern boundary of the Angkor Kingdom. Our data indicate anthro…

  • Human adaptation to mid- to late-Holocene climate change in Northeast Thailand

    Open Access•Barbara Wohlfarth, C Higham et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2016•Citada por: 20•Referencias: 11

This article integrates palaeoenvironmental and archaeological sequences covering the mid- to late-Holocene in Northeast Thailand. The former reveal the fluctuating intensity of the Asian summer monsoon, leading to periods of higher moisture availability with intervals of relative aridity. The latter are founded on a series of new radiocarbon determinations that provide a basic chronological framework, from the initial Neolithic settlements by ri…

  • Lake Kumphawapi revisited – The complex climatic and environmental record of a tropical wetland in NE Thailand

    Open Access•Sakonvan Chawchai, Kweku Afrifa Yamoah et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2015•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 15

Kumphawapi, which is Thailand’s largest natural freshwater lake, contains a >10,000-year-long climatic and environmental archive. New data sets (stratigraphy, chronology, hydrogen isotopes, plant macrofossil and charcoal records) for two sedimentary sequences are here combined with earlier multi-proxy studies to provide a comprehensive reconstruction of past climatic and environmental changes for Northeast Thailand. Gradually higher moisture avai…
