  • Experimental Conditions for 14 C Graphite Preparation at the Gxnu Lab, China

Open Access•Hongtao Shen, Dingxiong Chen et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2024•Referencias: 26

As a required sample preparation method for 14 C graphite, the Zn-Fe reduction method has been widely used in various laboratories. However, there is still insufficient research to improve the efficiency of graphite synthesis, reduce modern carbon contamination, and test other condition methodologies at Guangxi Normal University (GXNU). In this work, the experimental parameters, such as the reduction temperature, reaction time, reagent dose, Fe p…

  • Experimental Study on the Charge-Exchange Cross-Sections of Low-Energy Carbon Ions in Helium at Gxnu

Open Access•Guofeng Zhang, Hongtao Shen et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2024•Referencias: 19

Compared with nitrogen and argon, helium is lighter and can better reduce the beam loss caused by angular scattering during beam transmission. The molecular dissociation cross-section in helium is high and stable at low energies, which makes helium the prevalent stripping gas in low-energy accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS). To study the stripping behavior of 14 C ions in helium at low energies, the charge state distributions of carbon ion beams…

  • Sample Preparation System for Carbonate and Dic in Water at the Gxnu-Ams Laboratory

Open Access•Hongtao Shen, Linjie Qi et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2024

A new vacuum line to extract CO 2 from carbonate and dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) in water was established at Guangxi Normal University. The vacuum line consisted of two main components: a CO 2 bubble circulation region and a CO 2 purification collection region, both of which were made of quartz glass and metal pipelines. To validate its reliability, a series of carbonate samples were prepared using this system. The total recovery rate of CO …

  • Radiocarbon and Tritium Measurements at the Gxnu-Ams Facility

Open Access•Hongtao Shen, Dingxiong Chen et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2024•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 18

A single-stage accelerator mass spectrometer (GXNU-AMS) developed for radiocarbon and tritium measurements was installed and commissioned at Guangxi Normal University in 2017. After several years of operational and methodological upgrades, its performance has been continuously improved and applied in multidisciplinary fields. Currently, the measurement sensitivity for radiocarbon and tritium is 14 C/ 12 C ∼ (3.14 ± 0.05) ×10 –15 and 3 H/ 1 H ∼ (1…

  • Beppu Bay, Japan, as a candidate Global boundary Stratotype Section and Point for the Anthropocene series

    Open Access•Michinobu Kuwae, B Finney et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropocene Review•2023•Citada por: 4•Referencias: 29

For assessment of the potential of the Beppu Bay sediments as a Global boundary Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP) candidate for the Anthropocene, we have integrated datasets of 99 proxies. The datasets for the sequences date back 100 years for most proxy records and 1300 years for several records. The cumulative number of occurrences of the anthropogenic fingerprint reveal unprecedented increases above the base of the 1953 flood layer at 64.6 c…

  • C-Ams Technology and Its Applications to an Oil Field Tracer Experiment

Open Access•Hongtao Shen, Shulin Shi et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2022•Citada por: 4•Referencias: 6

Many waterflooding oil fields, injecting water into an oil-bearing reservoir for pressure maintenance, are in their middle to late stages of development. To explore the geological conditions and improve oilfield recovery of the most important well group of the Hu 136 block, located on the border areas of three provinces (Henan, Shandong, and Hebei), Zhongyuan Oilfield, Sinopec, central China, a 14 C cross-well tracer monitoring technology was dev…

  • New Sample Preparation Line for Radiocarbon Measurements at the Gxnu Laboratory

Open Access•Hongtao Shen, Junsen Tang et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2022•Citada por: 3•Referencias: 21

A new system for preparing 14 C samples was established for a compact accelerator mass spectrometer (GXNU-AMS) at Guangxi Normal University. This sample preparation system consists of three units: a vacuum maintenance unit, a CO 2 purification unit, and a CO 2 reduction unit, all of which were made of quartz glass. A series of radiocarbon ( 14 C) preparation experiments were conducted to verify the reliability of the system. The recovery rate of …

  • Pre- and Post-Accident 14 C Activities in tree rings near the Fukushima Dai-Ichi Nuclear Power Plant

Open Access•Tetsuya Matsunaka, Kimikazu Sasa et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2019•Referencias: 17

Areas affected by routine radiocarbon ( 14 C) discharges from the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP) and accidental releases in March 2011 were investigated by analysis of cores from Japanese cypress and cedar trees growing at sites 9 and 24 km northwest of the plant. 14 C concentrations in tree rings from 2008–2014 (before and after the accident) were determined by accelerator mass spectrometry, with 14 C activities in the range 231–…

  • Radiocarbon dating of Chinese Ancient Tea Trees

Open Access•Jia Chen, Hongtao Shen et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2019•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 18

The jungles of Linyun and Longlin Autonomous Prefecture, located in the heart of the southwestern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China, are home to the oldest tea trees ( Camellia sinensis ) in the world. In the absence of regular annual rings, radiocarbon ( 14 C) dating is one of the most powerful tools that can assist in the determination of the ages and growth rates of these plants. In this work, cores were extracted from large ancient te…

  • Estimation of Dietary Intake of Radionuclides and Effectiveness of Regulation after the Fukushima Accident and in Virtual Nuclear Power Plant Accident Scenarios

Open Access•Michio Murakami, Takao Nirasawa et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2018

Evaluation of radiation exposure from diet is necessary under the assumption of a virtual accident as a part of emergency preparedness. Here, we developed a model with complete consideration of the regional food trade using deposition data simulated by a transport model, and estimated the dietary intake of radionuclides and the effectiveness of regulation (e.g., restrictions on the distribution of foods) after the Fukushima accident and in virtua…
