  • Beppu Bay, Japan, as a candidate Global boundary Stratotype Section and Point for the Anthropocene series

    Open Access•Michinobu Kuwae, B Finney et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropocene Review•2023•Citada por: 4•Referencias: 29

For assessment of the potential of the Beppu Bay sediments as a Global boundary Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP) candidate for the Anthropocene, we have integrated datasets of 99 proxies. The datasets for the sequences date back 100 years for most proxy records and 1300 years for several records. The cumulative number of occurrences of the anthropogenic fingerprint reveal unprecedented increases above the base of the 1953 flood layer at 64.6 c…

Design Secondary data analyses of a nationwide longitudinal survey of children in Japan ongoing since 2001, with results collected from 2001 to 2004. We used logistic regression models to evaluate the associations of breast-feeding with ho…

  • Group involvement and self-rated health among the Japanese elderly

Open Access•Yoko Kishimoto, Eiji Suzuki et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2013

Bonding/bridging social capital could have differential associations with self-rated health among the Japanese elderly depending on the individual's sex. Considering the lack of consensus on how to measure bonding and bridging social capital, however, we need to carefully assess the generalizability of our findings. Further research is warranted to identify health-relevant dimensions of social capital in different cultural or economic settings

  • Social Cohesion and Mortality

Inoue, Sachiko Inoue et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2013•Citada por: 7•Referencias: 22

Objectives. We examined the association between social cohesion and mortality in a sample of older adults in Japan. Methods. Data were derived from a cohort study of elderly individuals (65–84 years) in Shizuoka Prefecture; 14 001 participants were enrolled at baseline (1999) and followed up in 2002, 2006, and 2009. Among the 11 092 participants for whom we had complete data, 1427 had died during follow-up. We examined the association between soc…

Toshihide Iwase, Eiji Suzuki et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2012•Citada por: 14•Referencias: 29

BACKGROUND: Few studies have examined the potential difference in the relationship between bonding versus bridging social capital and health outcomes. We sought to examine the association between these different types of social capital and self-rated health in a population-based study. METHODS: In February 2009, 4000 residents of Okayama City (aged 20-80 y) were randomly selected for a survey on social capital and health. The survey asked about p…

Eiji Suzuki, Soshi Takao et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2009•Citada por: 5•Referencias: 15

BACKGROUND: Despite the worldwide trend towards more time being spent at work by employed people, few studies have examined the independent influences of work-based versus home-based social networks on employees' health. We examined the association between work-based social networks and health status by controlling for home-based social networks in a cross-sectional study. METHODS: By employing a two-stage stratified random sampling procedure, 11…
