  • New and old coral radiocarbon records revisited for the subtropical and tropical Atlantic Ocean

    Open Access•Kristine L Delong, K Halimeda Kilbourne et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2025

Ocean radiocarbon ( 14 C) is a proxy for air-sea exchange, vertical and horizontal mixing, and water mass identification. Here, we present five pre- to post-bomb coral Δ 14 C records from West Flower Garden Bank and Santiaguillo reefs in the Gulf of Mexico, Boca de Medio, and Isla Tortuga near the Cariaco Basin north of Venezuela. To assess basin-wide Δ 14 C variability, we compiled the Atlantic Ocean reef-building surface coral Δ 14 C records (2…

  • The Flower Garden Banks Siderastrea siderea coral as a candidate Global boundary Stratotype Section and Point for the Anthropocene series

    Open Access•Kristine L Delong, Kylie Palmer et al.•ARTICLE•The Anthropocene Review•2023•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 77

The proposed Anthropocene Global Boundary Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP) candidate site of West Flower Garden Bank (27.8762°N, 93.8147°W) is an open ocean location in the Gulf of Mexico with a submerged coral reef and few direct human impacts. Corals contain highly accurate and precise (<±1 year) internal chronologies, similar to tree rings, and their exoskeletons are formed of aragonite and can be preserved in the rock record. Here we prese…

  • A speleothem-based mid-Holocene precipitation reconstruction for West-Central Florida

    Open Access•Anna L Pollock, Philip E van Beynen et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2016•Referencias: 6

The mid-Holocene was the warmest segment of the current interglacial and possessed a weak latitudinal temperature gradient, which impacted climate teleconnections and thus precipitation variability. Our window into the mid-Holocene climate is a high-resolution (near annual) stalagmite stable isotope-based paleoprecipitation record from Brown’s Cave in West-Central Florida. The oxygen isotopic (δ 18 O) time series is tied to a uranium-series (U-se…
