Leveraging context-specific behavioral economic principles to enable patients to change their physical activity patterns
This study explores how context-specific behavioral economic principles could be employed to tailor interventions to support patients' efforts to modify day-to-day routines. Using adapted geo-ethnography techniques, interviews collected in-depth descriptions about facilitators and barriers to physical activity (PA), and contexts influencing decisions about day-to-day activities. Data were analyzed using the COM-B model for behavior change and MIN…
Time-Use Sequences
This study demonstrates the potential for interventions to integrate tools for collecting and communicating spatial and temporal contexts of patient routines, such as the types of activities that characterize how patients spend significant portions of time and identification of when, where, and how to encourage health-promoting changes in routine activities. Time-use patterns provide insight for tailoring behavior change interventions so that cli…
Canadian healthcare workers’ mental health and health behaviours during the Covid-19 pandemic

Blame, Shame, and Lack of Support

We used feminist poststructuralism as the guiding methodology because it questions everyday practices that many of us take for granted. We identified three key themes across the three participant groups: blame as a devastating relat…
Anxious Temperament and Disease Progression at Diagnosis
OBJECTIVE: To examine the association between anxious temperament and disease progression at diagnosis for individuals with Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). METHODS: A sample of 204 individuals, newly diagnosed with T2DM, completed the Behavioral Inhibition and Activation Scales (BIS/BAS) and provided an A1C reading. Regression analyses were used to predict A1C levels from individual differences in BIS and BAS. RESULTS: Individual differences in …
Postpartum Flatal and Fecal Incontinence Quality-of-Life Scale
Using various recruiting methods, the authors identified 10 women who suffer from flatal and/or fecal incontinence subsequent to one or more previous vaginal deliveries. Each of these women participated in an individual in-depth 1-hour interview assessing symptom frequency, severity, and impact on quality of life. Participants also completed the Fecal Incontinence Quality-of-Life Scale and evaluated how well this scale captured their experiences.…
