Predictions in 1981 that the flight of white students from the public schools in Norfolk, Virginia, would resegregate the public schools unless busing was stopped led the federal courts to order the end of busing in Grades K-5 in 1986. The authors' research shows that these predictions were incorrect. After 1982, white flight nearly stopped in Grades K-12 and reversed in Grades K-5. Class, Religious Participation and Psychiatric Symptomology
The theories of Marx and Freud suggest that religion can reduce psychiatric symptomology by promoting authoritarian submission. Previous research is inconclusive. Data from a community survey is analyzed with controls for agreeing response-set bias, social desirability bias, and with tests for curvilinearity. It is found that authoritarianism is not related to either religious participation or denomination, nor is psychiatric symptomology related…

A chronological review and methodological critique of action research on redlining in 15 communities is presented. Redlining studies have been conducted or sponsored by three types of researchers: 1) non-profit neighborhood organizations, 2) academic or governmental institutions, and 3) lending institutions. We study static repair priorities in a system consisting of one repair shop and one stockpoint, where spare parts of multiple, critical repairables are kept on stock to serve an installed base of technical systems. Demands for ready-for-use parts occur according to Poisson processes, and are accompanied by returns of failed parts.
