Open Access•Sid Penders, Mandy Stijnen et al.•ARTICLE•Social Sciences & Humanities Open•2025

The Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) setting plays a pivotal role in fostering lifelong healthy behaviours and habits, as these are largely formed through early childhood experiences. • Balancing Fidelity and Adaptation

    Open Access•Marion Driessen-Willems, Marion D Driessen‐Willems et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of School Health•2025

BACKGROUND: Implementation of school-based health promotion programs requires contextual fit. To strengthen the nutrition education program "Krachtvoer" (ENG: "Power Food") and learn general lessons about contextual fit, this study examined how the program, the context, and program-context interactions affected teachers' balancing between implementation fidelity and adaptation. METHODS: As part of a co-creation process with continuous micro-proce…

  • Sleep health and its correlates among male and female military recruits in Jordan

Open Access•Ahmad Malkawi, Ahmad M Malkawi et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

Jordanian military recruits on average had short sleep duration and poor sleep quality. Results showed that better sleep hygiene practices (especially among women) and more sleep knowledge (particularly among men) were associated with better sleep quality. Interventions that use cognitive and behavioral change methods to promote sleep hygiene and improve sleep knowledge are recommended to improve sleep quality among military recruits

  • A qualitative study into the perceptions and needs of fathers with a migration background on parenting regarding energy balance-related behaviors

    Open Access•Meredith L Overman, Roel C J Hermans et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2025

  • What's in a name? Examining the confusion of meat-like terminology on meat imitating plant-based products

    Open Access•Linsay Ketelings, Remco C Havermans et al.•ARTICLE•Appetite•2025•Referencias: 12

Meat alternatives are becoming increasingly popular amongst consumers. The names on these products, specifically the use of meat-like designations on non-animal products, remains a major point of contention. The aim of this study was to investigate whether meat-like vs. non-meat-like names are potentially confusing or even misleading. In this study, a categorisation task was used where participants classified products as animal-based or plant-bas…

This study applied the mental model approach to understanding perceptions of ABR among different Dutch orthopedic healthcare professionals. The expert model (step 1) was based on evidence-based ABR information and expert interviews ( n = 3). This model prompted the step 2 questionnaire to inquire about perceived causes, consequ…

  • Applying systems thinking in youth-centred participatory action research for health promotion in an underserved neighbourhood

Open Access•Helga Emke, Teatske Altenburg et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2024

Purpose: Childhood overweight is considered a complex problem influenced by a range of factors, including energy balance-related behaviours (EBRBs) and interacting drivers of these behaviours. There is growing support that applying a systems approach is required to tackle complex problems resulting in actions that attempt to change the system's dynamics. Additionally, a participatory approach is advocated to include the lived experience of the po…

Results: The CLD contained 121 factors and 31 feedback loops. We identified six subsystems with their goals: (1) interaction between adolescents and the f…

Therefore, this study aimed to explore primary school children's perspectives on TPs that foster PE enjoyment.…

  • Fake meat or meat with benefits? How Dutch consumers perceive health and nutritional value of plant-based meat alternatives

Open Access•Linsay Ketelings, Eline Benerink et al.•ARTICLE•Appetite•2023•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 35

Animal agriculture has a large impact on the environment. Hence, there is an increasing demand for meat alternatives - more sustainably produced plant-based products that replace meat as meal component. Demands for meat alternatives also seem to be fuelled by consumers' belief that meat alternatives are healthier than meat products. In an online questionnaire study, we examined whether consumers indeed perceived meat alternatives to be healthier,…

Introduction: The health-promoting school (HPS) approach was developed by the World Health Organization to create health promotion changes in the whole school system. Implementing the approach can be challenging for schools because schools are dynamic organizations with each a unique context. Many countries worldwide have a health promotion system in place in which healthy school (HS) advisors support schools in the process of implementing the HP…
