Unemployment and Economic Policy in Denmark in the 1930s
The paper examines Danish unemployment and the employment policy in the 1930s. The unemployment data indicate that though the unemployment increased dramatically the rate of unemployment remained low. The official Danish unemployment records definitely underestimated the actual unemployment in the early 1930s, but the discrepancy was hardly as big as some scholars have suggested. The Impact of Open Access to Fishing Grounds
The paper examines the Dane Jens Warming's published and unpublished works on fisheries economics from the period 1911-38. In 1911 Warming published a highly original article on the problems of open access to a common property resource. The article contains the same results as H. Scott Gordon presented in his seminal article on fisheries economics from 1954. Warming frequently returned to his model later in life. The reason for doing so was that …

Unemployment in Denmark in the 1930s
This paper examines three estimates of Danish unemployment in the 1930s by Maddison (1964), Hansen (1974) and Pedersen (1977). Secondly, two new estimates of the Danish unemployment are presented based on the available monthly data from the unemployment [unds and on the official registration of unemployment outside the funds. Influence of the public sector on activity in Denmark, 1929-39
The article presents the first quantification of Denmark's discretionary fiscal policy of the 1930s. The measuring of the discretionary budget effects is based on a revision of the changes in the aggregate public sector budget balance and a computation of the size of the automatic stabilisers. It is shown that Danish fiscal policy became steadily more contractive between 1932/33 and 1936/37, while changes in an expansive direction occurred only i…
